Karen Arredondo

San Antonio native Karen Arredondo has a versatile skill set that will enhance any production. Known predominantly for her scenic art skills, she has worked with several major theatre, opera and performance arts companies in San Antonio including, Opera San Antonio, Lyric Opera, Classic Theatre of San Antonio, Jump-Start Performance Company, FIRE Collaborative, The Guadalupe Theatre and The Overtime Theatre.  

 

She received her BFA from Texas State University in Technical Theatre-Design and Technology. Karen is currently pursuing her MFA in Design and Production at the University of Memphis.

 

Previous work includes 13 years in varying roles for the Alamo Colleges, as well as freelancing design, prop and paint work. She also assisted in the opening of the Tobin Center for the Performing Arts, working as its first Head of Carpentry, Props and Wardrobe, among many other jobs.

 

She received the 2014 Tobin Award for Set Design for the original work of Beasts of Baverly Grove, written by San Antonio actor/playwright Michael Burger with The Overtime Theater in San Antonio.

 

In 2016, Karen joined forces with local theatre artists, Vanessa Rae Garcia, Holly Clifford, Juan Calderon, and Cory Clay, to create VIVA Theater Co. VIVA's mission is to bring new work to San Antonio, by local artists and performers. During its tenure, VIVA produced a 48 hour play festival and a monologue showcase.

In 2022, Karen published her first book, Rose Gold. A book of poetry and began her work as a playwright producing short works with Jump-Start Performance Co. 

​

Karen won the City of San Antonio's Individual Artist Grant in 2024 to write and produce an original production of Los Cuentos de Las Cartas which will premier a short segment at Jump-Start and be fully produced at The Overtime Theater in early 2025.
